Application Instructions
If you are eligible to apply through the early decision process, you do not need to also complete the DICAS application. The process to apply as early decision is outlined below.
Step 1. Submit the DI application materials by January 15th.
Please complete the Dietetic Internship application through the Graduate College website. Select "Dietetic Internship/Human Nutrition" as your program of study.
If you are also applying for admission to the MSHN, you will need to complete two applications within the Graduate college system: 1) an application for admission to the Dietetic Internship and 2) an application for admission to the MSHN.
Please note : when completing the application for the Dietetic Internship, you will confirm that you understand the DI is a non-degree seeking program and that you will be enrolled as a non-degree seeking student. Your status will be updated to degree-seeking once the admissions process is complete.
The following materials will be required for your application to the dietetic internship and will be submitted via the Graduate College website:
- Copies of official transcripts
- Official transcripts, submitted directly from your institution, will be required only after you are admitted.
- You will need to enter your calculated DPD GPA. For information about how to calculate this, contact your DPD Director.
- Two letters of recommendation
- Ideally, one of these letters focuses on your academic performance and qualifications and the other focuses on your professional experience and qualifications.
- A third, academically-focused letter will be required if you are simultaneously applying to the MSHN program.
- A copy of your DPD verification statement or intent to complete
- The verification statement and intent to complete forms are issued by your DPD Director. Contact the institution where you completed your DPD coursework to obtain these documents. If you completed your DPD coursework at Texas State, this person is Mrs. Youens.
- The official, hard copy verification statement will be required after you are admitted.
- Your current one-page resume
- Answers to the following questions (entered directly into the Graduate College application system).
- Why do you want to be a dietitian?
- Describe specific populations you feel have the greatest need for nutrition intervention (your answer may include age, ethnicity, gender, life stage, etc.). In what way do your professional goals intersect with these needs?
- What strengths do you bring to the practice of dietetics?
- In what areas do you feel you need to improve in order to effectively practice dietetics?
- Credit/debit card information for the nonrefundable application fee.
- The Dietetic Internship application fee is $70 for US applicants, $110 for applicants with international transcripts.
To submit these materials, please follow the application instructions on the Graduate College website.
Note: this application does not have to be completed in one sitting. You can log in as many times as you need.
All application materials must be received by the application deadline of January 15.
Step 2. Prepare for a potential interview.
Early decision applicants may be called by the DI Director for an interview between January 15th and February 1. Interviews will be scheduled in advance.
Step 3. Receive notification by February 1.
All early decision admission decisions will be communicated by February 1 to give applicants who were not selected time to apply for other internships.
Students admitted into the internship through early decision or DICAS will be required to complete post-acceptance documentation ahead of beginning supervised practice rotations. Required documentation includes but is not limited to the following: original verification statement signed by DPD director, official transcript verifying bachelor's degree, proof of all immunizations (MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Covid-19, Hepatitis B, and influenza), evidence of a negative drug test, and evidence of a clean criminal background check. Failure to do so will prevent participation in supervised practice and may result in dismissal from the internship.
