Applying Through DICAS
Current Texas State students (undergraduate or graduate), Texas State alumni, and students new to Texas State who have been admitted and are enrolled in the Master of Science in human nutrition program, are eligible to apply through the early decision process. Alternatively, applicants must apply through the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System (DICAS) hosted by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Each year, the Texas State DI takes two to three applicants through the DICAS match system. *Important note: Applicants applying through DICAS must also apply to our Master of Science in human nutrition program (if they are not currently or have previously been enrolled) in order to be considered for the Texas State Dietetic Internship.
The DICAS application process consists of five steps:
Step 1. Complete the centralized application using the DICAS Applicant Portal by January 15th.
Additional instructions and support for completing the DICAS application can be found on the DICAS website and by contacting your Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Director.
Step 2. Pay the $50 application fee to the Texas State Dietetic Internship.
Please note, this fee is in addition to any fees you pay through DICAS. This application fee covers expenses incurred by Texas State personnel during the review of your application. A check or money order (made payable to the Texas State University Dietetic Internship) must be mailed to the DI Director at the address listed below and postmarked by January 15th. Applicants will receive a receipt via email.
Step 3. Submit the MS in Human Nutrition application materials by January 15th.
Complete the MS in Human Nutrition application through the Graduate College website. Select "Nutrition: Human Nutrition (MS)" as your program of study. Please follow all application instructions provided on this website. You will need to complete a seperate personal statement and upload copies of your official transcripts for this application. Acceptance to the MS in Human Nutrition does not guarantee acceptance into the Dietetic Internship. Students must be both: 1) accepted into the MS in Human Nutrition program, and 2) accepted to the Dietetic Internship via the DICAS application portal.
Please note: Current MS in Human Nutrition students applying through DICAS do not need to complete a new application to the MS in Human Nutrition.
Step 4. Prepare for a potential interview
DICAS applicants may be called by the DI Director for an interview. Interviews will be scheduled in advance.
Step 5. Receive notification by March 1.
All DICAS admissions decisions will be communicated by March 1st. Students admitted to the Texas State Dietetic Internship through DICAS must provide notification of their decision to the Dietetic Internship Director by March 15th.
Students admitted into the internship through early decision or DICAS will be required to complete post-acceptance documentation ahead of beginning supervised practice rotations. Required documentation includes but is not limited to the following: original verification statement signed by DPD director, official transcript verifying bachelor's degree, proof of all immunizations (MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Covid-19, Hepatitis B, and influenza), evidence of a negative drug test, and evidence of a clean criminal background check. Failure to do so will prevent participation in supervised practice and may result in dismissal from the internship.
